Tyler Browne | Head of Racquet Sports and Fitness

Tyler Browne joined the Orinda Country Club in 2020 after having served as the Associate Head Coach for the Men’s Tennis team at UC Berkeley for 12 years. During his tenure, he and Peter Wright led the team to 12 consecutive NCAA berths, including a run to the Final Four in 2016. Tyler earned the ITA Northwest Assistant Coach of the Year award in 2012, 2015, 2017 and 2019. Tyler has worked with 7 All-Americans, including the pair who won the 2015 ITA All-American Doubles Championships. Many of Tyler’s players have continued to the professional tour, most notably Andre Goransson (16’) who currently ranks #87 on the ATP doubles tour and Ben McLachlan (13’) who currently ranks #58 on the doubles tour. Tyler is most proud of the fact that every athlete that he has worked with has graduated from Cal.

Born and raised in Walnut Creek, Tyler attended Las Lomas High School and during that time, won the NCS doubles title in 2000 and the NCS singles title in 2003. Tyler was the #1 ranked junior in Northern California and earned a scholarship to play at UC Berkeley. At Cal, Tyler earned career-high national rankings of #56 in singles and #12 in doubles. He ended his career as team captain, competing at #2 singles and #1 doubles. During the summer months, Tyler competed on the ATP tour and earned a singles ranking in 2006.

While working at Cal, Tyler continued to compete locally and nationally in men’s tournaments. Tyler is a 10-time winner at the $25,000 Moraga Open, most recently winning the Mixed Doubles title in 2019. He has been competing nationally in the men’s 30’s division since 2015, winning 13 national titles, earning him the year end #1 national ranking in 2016 for men’s singles and doubles. In USTA League play, Tyler was the captain for the California Tennis Club’s Open team that won the national team title in 2019 and 2016.

Tyler has additionally served as the Director for the Cal Tennis Camps during his time in Berkeley. Since taking over the program in 2009, Tyler has guided and developed the once 3-week program with 30 kids to a sold-out, wait-listed 7-week program servicing over 450 children. Tyler was responsible for the planning of the daily tennis activities for all ages and skill levels and took great pride in the opportunity to mentor 12 staff members each week.

As a former member of the Orinda Country Club summer camp staff from 2001-2003, Tyler is beyond excited to return to his roots to work with all members at Orinda Country Club.
