Brian Thomas | Head of Tennis and Fitness

Brian has served as Orinda Country Club's Head Tennis Professional since 2001. He had previously spent seven years as the Head Tennis Professional/Manager at the world-famous Kapalua Tennis Garden, in Maui, Hawaii. In 2015, Brian was promoted to the Head of Tennis and Fitness at OCC.  Brian is a USPTA Elite Professional, a PTR Professional, a USTA High Performance certified coach, a PCA Double Goal Coach, an ICI Competition and Professional Coach, a registered Cardio Tennis provider, and a Master Racquet Technician with the USRSA. Brian serves on the USTA NorCal Board of Directors for 2017-18 and is on the Sanction and Schedule Committee.  Under Brian’s leadership as the Director of the Junior Program, Orinda has had over 100 players playing varsity tennis, over 50 of those as freshmen, and had over 50 ranked juniors, 7 who were ranked nationally. In 2009, Brian guided the Boys 12 and under USTA Advanced Team to their fifth straight league title and the first USTA NorCal Team Championship in Club history. Brian's USTA Women’s teams have won four Diablo North League titles, two NorCal Sectional titles, and finished third Nationally in 2009 with a 24-1 record. Brian has held a top ten Men's Open singles ranking in two sections, a top 15 Men's Open doubles ranking in three sections and has finished #1 in singles and doubles in NorCal in 35s, 40s, and 45s.  Brian has been ranked Nationally in the top 10 in singles and doubles.  Brian is a die-hard Eagles, Flyers, Phillies and Sixers fan, has happily adopted the Sharks and Warriors, and is a single digit handicap golfer. Brian is the proud father of daughter Gabriella, son Dylan, and has been happily married to wife Jessie since August 1999.

Brent De Groot | Tennis Professional

Brent earned his Professional 1 rating with the USPTA in 1991. Brent competed on the Men’s Open Circuit and was coached by current Head Tennis Coach at UC Berkeley, Peter Wright. Brent finished 2010 with a #2 ranking in NorCal Men’s 40 and over and #28 in the country. After spending eight years at MTSC, Brent joined the Orinda Country Club Tennis Staff where he has developed a great Cardio Tennis program and helped all of our programs grow and thrive. Brent has also served as one of the Bay Area Board of Directors for the Joy of Sports Foundation, a non-profit organization bringing tennis to inner-city children through the Boys and Girls Clubs in San Francisco.
