When Edward deLaveaga first conceived of the Orinda Country Club in the 1920s, he intended it to be a focal point for life in the newly developing community around it. In fact, the growth of Orinda has been closely linked to the growth of OCC.

The Club was the center of activity that encouraged people to make the difficult journey in the days when it might take hours to drive to Orinda along the tortuous San Pablo Dam Road or Fish Ranch Road. Some people parked their automobiles at the Grizzly Peak stables and rode horseback into Orinda, leaving their animals to be groomed at Miss Graham’s Riding Academy on Orinda Way while they enjoyed their stay at the Orinda Country Club.
