Deadhorse, the name of the eighth and shortest hole (originally 123 yards), is a derivation of Dead Horse Gulch, the name of the area in which one of deLaveaga’s horses had died. The grass between the tee and traps was taken out in 1932 to eliminate maintenance problems; later, with sprinkling systems installed, it was replanted.
